Kayak 101- Whitewater Fundamentals Our seven-session whitewater kayaking course teaches the fundamentals you’ll need to participate in this exciting sport. Start in the indoor pool, progress through flatwater and moving water onto Class II whitewater. You’ll learn basic strokes and techniques for boat control, maneuvers like eddy turns and peel outs, plus river safety and rescue skills. The course also covers river reading, personal gear, tips on outfitting your kayak and more. Kayak 201 - Whitewater Refresher The three-day kayak refresher course provides returning students a whitewater tune-up, starting with a full day on flatwater and easy moving water to review basic kayaking skills. Followed by two fun-filled days to work on improving stoke effectiveness and make successful ferries, peel outs, eddy turns and S-turns on moderately challenging whitewater. Kayak 212 - Whitewater Continuum If you feel comfortable in class II water and ready to work on precision and boat control, this class is for you. Expect to work on attains and make Class III maneuvers on Class II water, dropping decisively into those micro eddies. River time will be geared towards improving water reading skills and preparing you to run bigger stuff. We'll also take time to identify "friendly" features and practice surfing waves, playing holes, and self-rescue [not necessarily in that order]. | Kayak 224 - Rodeo Basics This comprehensive two-day class focuses on fine-tuning strokes, stroke combinations and maneuvers. Learn to make the most of river features. The emphasis is on skills to keep you on the wave longer, working in sharp cutbacks and back surfs. Then, head for the holy spot to work on side surfing, flat spinning, endo’s and cartwheels. | Solo / Tandem Canoe 105W A Women’s River This is the class for any woman who wants to paddle her own canoe, solo or tandem, whether she is new to the sport, wanting to refine skills, or simply tired of sitting in the bow and taking all of the blame. We’ll get familiar with our boats in a nice, warm pool, master basic strokes on flatwater, then move onto learning basic river maneuvers on moving water [up to Class I]. Learn how to read water and use it to your advantage in a no shame / no blame environment. This class will help you feel comfortable paddling quietwater rivers on your own, or it can be used as a low-anxiety first step towards paddling whitewater. | Solo Canoe 212 - Whitewater Continuum This intensive two-day solo canoe class will help people with a desire to improve their downstream vision and strive for perfect harmony between boat, body and blade. Expect to work on carving, blasting out of eddies in reverse and attaining upstream through rapids. You'll look for new lines on familiar rivers, building the skills and confidence you need for a longer ride on your favorite play wave. | Solo Canoe 215 - Freestyle Canoe A class for quietwater paddlers that already have solid a J-stroke, know how to sideslip their boat and want to take their technique and boat control to the next level. You'll work on advanced quietwater maneuvers like the axle, wedge and cross shift. This introduction to freestyle canoe covers the first of the six part ACA curriculum.
